INTERMON Toolkit

Goals

  • Integrated Topology Discovery, Monitoring, Modelling, Visual Data Mining and Simulation Platform using data base with policy control for inter-domain QoS Analysis.
  • Measurement based modelling, simulation and visual data mining using inputs from inter-domain monitoring and topology discovery tools.
  • Automated scenario configuration using policy based control of different kinds of INTERMON tools and their interaction for performing specific task in the area of inter-domain capacity planning and QoS analysis.
  • Automated support for integrated Internet inter-domain structure analysis, QoS and traffic monitoring, measurement based modelling, simulation and visual data mining using data base with policy control for performing specific analysis:
    • monitoring, modelling, simulation, validation, planning, forecasting and optimisation of QoS in inter-domain environment (spatial composition of end-to-end into inter-domain QoS).
    • Inter-domain traffic engineering and capacity planning (traffic matrix).
  • Modular user interface for tools, management functions and data base integration (“open data base”).

INTERMON toolkit integrates tools and data bases in policy controlled and in autonomous way

  • The autonomous way of integration allow tool execution based on independent tasks using the specific tool.
  • Policy controlled integration is managed by rules defining tool specific parameters, data base access and tool interaction.

IntermonModel

Overview of menus and functions

  • Tool selection (visual data mining, simulation, modelling, monitoring, topology discovery) and tool interaction policies (tool combination) – i.e. policy control of INTERMON tools and their interactions.
  • Data Base with Configuration , Access and Authorisation policies.

Topology discovery over multiple domains

  • Example for inter-domain topology discovery between end systems in Salzburg (Austria) and Madrid (Spain).

Modelling tools

  • Menus for measurement based QoS and traffic modelling.
Example - forecasting with ARIMA models.

Monitoring Tools

  • Functions for end-to-end QoS monitoring (CM Toolset), traffic measurement (IPFIX), path topology discovery (traceroute), inter-domain routing (BGP-4) analyser.
  • Functions for policy controlled usage of monitoring tools for performing specific tasks (QoS dependency on topology and routing, inter-domain QoS inferencing).
  • Example IPFIX traffic flow monitoring - interface for flow specification

Controls

  • Management and control of available tools (remote meter/adapters, control stations), distributed data bases belonging to INTERMON toolkit.
  • Topological and geographical mapping of INTERMON Toolkit resources.
